Care for your Veneers

The single most important thing to ensure the longevity of your Veneers is proper porcelain veneer care, regular checkups, and good home care.

Not all Veneers are the same and not all techniques are the same, but no matter who the dentist is and how amazing the veneers look, if you do not care for them through regular professional checkup and daily good oral hygiene practices they will not last; but if you care for them they can last for 20 – 25 years without any significant change.

Proper Porcelain Veneer Care

Fluoride Toothpaste

Toothpaste that has fluoride, which is essential in fighting cavities by strengthening the enamel.

YES, for gel no for toothpaste.

Always Avoid

Whitening Toothpaste

Chemicals such as Hydrogen Peroxide used in whitening toothpaste will weaken the veneer and will affect the structural integrity of the veneers.

Abrasive toothpaste

Abrasive toothpaste might seem harmless, but excessive use will affect the luster of the Porcelain Veneer surface so stay away from toothpaste containing Aluminum Hydroxide, Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate), Calcium & Magnesium Carbonate, and Hydrates Silica.

Porcelain veneers are made of strong ceramic materials. They are built to withstand regular biting and chewing, so the wrong toothpaste is not going to damage veneers overnight. However, with extended use, some toothpastes could scratch the surface of porcelain veneers and cause them to look aged or discolored.

Our advice to our patients is to always read the label before purchasing a toothpaste. If a toothpaste has highly abrasive ingredients, like baking soda or hydrogen peroxide, it will affect the integrity and the longevity the porcelain veneers.

And finally avoid chewing ice or hard candy that can chip your natural teeth or porcelain Veneers.
